The standard deviation is the square root of the arithmetic mean of the sum of squares of the deviations from the mean. Strictly and mathematically, but absolutely incomprehensible. This is a verbal description of the formula for calculating the standard deviation, but to understand the meaning of this statistical term, let's deal with everything in order.

Imagine a shooting range, target and arrow. The sniper shoots at a standard target, where hitting the center gives 10 points, depending on the distance from the center, the number of points decreases, and hitting the outer areas gives only 1 point. Each shooter's shot is a random integer value between 1 and 10. A bullet-riddled target is a great illustration of the distribution of a random variable.
